Not so correct

Thanks to my sweet friend Sandra made me discover a not so (actually not at all) politically correct web comic: Hipster Hitler. Only because of the lack of plotical correctness - I love it, seeing that if someone is making fun of that huge psycho scumbag they also at the same time remembers him for it. Which is important.

Men vänta!

Snow, work, no sleep - qualified BS

There’s at least a foot (and a half) of snow outside but it’s not in one and the same place for more than a minute because of the storm. I had about five hours of sleep before I started working this morning because of yesterday’s turkey dinner á la American Thanksgiving - taking away the football and waiting for Black Friday sales of course (Americans, please, correct me if I’m wrong here...). It took me about a gallon of coffee to wake up and defrost. Now, my throat’s gone sore so thank GOD I’m not working tomorrow. I’ll gulp down buckets of the beige stuff (tea) and sleeeeeeep... when I’m not watching another episode of Queer as Folk that is. I’m doing a rerun of the complete American series – it’s only five seasons so it’s no murder. The British version is only two seasons but it’s not as good (Charlie Hunnam went on from the British Queer as Folk to doing something so much better in Sons of Anarchy where his British accent is completely replaced, which, I might add, isn’t a bad thing and I’m waiting for the next episode).

Finally, I want to point out how many nerdy references that are used in House M.D. (just take the line “these are not the droids you are looking for” when referring to a decease that according to House isn’t there).

Steve Hughes

Proof that death metal and cooking DO mix! ("Satan and coriander...")

Back in the day when Steve Hughes made that valid point he has since expressed again and again. Gay men are as tough as men get. Hughes just dares say it.

Sellouts

Geralt vs. Nuada

Geralt of Rivia
vs.
Prince Nuada of Bethmoora

See any similarities?

The Hutt recommends: the Witcher

Andrzej Sapkowski - The Last Wish.
It's the first of the novels about the witcher Geralt of Rivia. Years ago I watched the Polish tv series Wiedzmin (that's Polish for "witcher", and the film is just a cut version of the series, no joke) and have admired the RPG computer game since it came out in 2007 (oh well, mostly the booklet and the special edition artbook that came with the game a friend of mine bought, and this year The Witcher 2 is out in stores - whoopie!) so I figured that I should complete the circle and read the books that all of it is based on. I have. I'm not disappointed. Far from in fact. If I'm in the situation where I have to choose between one of the three (now four, but forget that for a moment) I'd choose the books. Why? Mainly because there's was a lack of funding with the series/film(seen from Western standards of course) and with the game I'd actually have to do something to make the story move forward. I'm lazy and Sapkowski makes fairytales so much fun. Snow White suddenly turned into a vicious mercenary out for blood and the Genie in that bottle... isn't as well-behaved as you remembered him to be in the Disney film.

What still sort of strikes me as odd is how I when I watch game trailers see this strange similarity between Geralt and a certain bitter (yet extremely handsome) elf prince (I'm talking about Nuada from Hellboy II here).
It's worth at least a thought.

Uppdrag: Nybro

I Nybro.

Movie Maniac

...and two minutes later I've ordered Disney's Beauty & the Beast 2-disc Edition, Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Nosferatu (1922).
I'm so not good with holding back on the movies (bought both Sunshine and E.T. earlier today too...).

Also kind of funny how I think that a silent movie made in the 1920's is one of the best vampire movies ever made. No romanticism, massive amounts of hidden messages (filled to the brim with antisemitism and contraimperialism, and not to forget, sexual insinuations with the piercing with teeth of the virgin's neck and so on and so forth...) and one ugly vampire. Just like it's supposed to be.

Aliens

(Oh, I just love the duality of that post title!)
My day just got a little better (and brighter) when I realised that sci-fi legend Lance Henriksen is playing an author and extraterrestrial expert in episode 9 of the second season of Nathan Fillion’s tv-series Castle (not his series per se but at least he's the star of it).

For all of you non-sci-fi nerds out there; Lance Henriksen played the android/synthetic entity/artificial person in the, by far, best sci-fi movie ever made – Aliens.

Also, Fillion is yet again tasked with speaking Chinese (Mandarin) just like he was in Firefly and Serenity as follows (don't you just love how you can bypass censorship by swearing in another language?):

He's getting better at it though...

Nu, not so much.

Here kitty...

Mus-Ingvar (now almost always referred to as Fluff-Ingvar) is growing into one big cat!

The A-Team (?)

Felt I had to watch The A-Team the other day. Mostly because of Liam Neeson. A little because of Bradley Cooper. I ended up liking Sharlto Copley (you remember the guy from District 9, don't you? Awesome actor) thanks to his portrayal of the slightly insane Captain Murdock.

Taken together it's brainless action galore so I'm guessing that one can only like this if one have seen (and loved) the 80's tv-series. Prejudice does that to you.

It's a bit like me and the X-Men movies. They're very much out there in the world of the obscure and ridiculous with yellow spandex and all that, but hey, it doesn't change the fact that I'm a huge fangirl all the same. X-Men - The Last Stand on the other hand DOES NOT EXIST in my world of fandom.
THAT was a disgrace to the Marvel Universe.

Lat?

Just a feeling

Just to make the situation clear to everyone:
Feel free to comment on anything you read here.
Really. I don't bite.
Question my sanity - it amuses me.

Douglas Adams' books

I know I've written about my ever-lasting love for Douglas Adams before, but a good thing's always worth repeating...

D. Adams' Books (those in orange, I haven't yet read):
The Private Life of Genghis Khan (1975)
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (1979)
The Restaurant at the End of the Universe (1980)
Life, the Universe and Everything (1982)
The Meaning of Liff (1983, with John Lloyd)
So Long, and Thanks For All the Fish (1984)
Young Zaphod Plays It Safe (short story) (1986)
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (1987)
The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul (1988)
The Deeper Meaning of Liff (1990, with John Lloyd)
Last Chance to See (1990, with Mark Carwardine)
Mostly Harmless (1992)
Douglas Adams's Starship Titanic (1997), in fact written by Terry Jones (who insists he wrote the whole thing while in the nude), but based on an idea by Adams.
The Salmon of Doubt (2002), unfinished novel manuscript (11 chapters), short stories, essays, and interviews.

All of them hilarious. So if you ask me - this guy was special.
Now I'll just have to get my hands on The Meaning of Liff and the Doctor Who episodes Adams wrote...

Have also found out that our derest Mr. Adams died from suffering a heart attack while he was working out at a private gym in California. It subsequently turned out that he too, like his most adorable Hitchhiker characters, knew where his towel was. He didn't even turn 50.

Damaged by Blizzard

Me wants. The Official Diablo III Wall Calender for 2011. Tyrael's still one of the more impressive characters of the game it seems (since his enlighted figure is the one thing Blizzard seems keen on showing everywhere). With the exception of Diablo himself. Find more cool info on Blizzard's official Diablo III homepage - here.

All you other freaks can probabably find it on Amazon.)

Geeks gone goofy

You know the kind of people completely without any sort of social life, sitting around creating stories based on other peoples stories (what we'd call "fan-fictions")? People who make their own characters (so-called "Original Characters"/"OC's") only to place them in, lets say, the The Lord of the Rings universe? Or the Harry Potter universe for that matter?
Isn't that just sooooo geeky?

My HP character's here.
Here.
And here.
And here too.

Yeah. I'm THAT geeky.

I'm two steps away from being a full out pure-blood L.A.R.P.*'er.
...OK, maybe I'm not THAT geeky. But I'm pretty f-ing close.

*L.A.R.P. = "Live Action Role Play", in Swedish also called "lajv".

Riktigt bra.

SoA made me

I have never in my life wanted or even been the least interested in motorcycles even though both Moo-Ma and Moo-Pa have been members of a club and been riding a lot through the years. I thought my Moo-Pa was the coolest thing in existance when he picked me up from school with the bike but that was only because no other brat I knew of had a parent with a motorcycle.
Then I started watching Sons of Anarchy this summer. Among the cast are Ron Perlman (Hellboy/Mutant Chronicles, he's so kick-ass he can kill you with his eyes), Charlie Hunnam (the British version of Queer as Folk), Ryan Hurst (Remember the Titans, see picture below) and Tommy Flanagan (the man with "the Glasgow smile" in Braveheart/Sin City). Since that first episode of SoA I've been thinking more and more about bikes, tattoos and big men with beards. For a while, a Harley Davidson was high on my wishlist... I think I'll have to settle with watching them from a distance.

I'm waiting for episode 10 in season 3 of SoA as we speak.

Who wouldn't?
It's funny though, how I can't stop laughing now that they're in deep trouble with the Belfast charter of SoA. Personally, I think it's hilarious when Americans try out UK dialects. And how they cast Scots as Irishmen. And how everyone seems to think Belfast is in Ireland. It's ON the Irish island but IN Nothern Ireland, UK.
Nawww, I think I just pissed some people off. Haha, I love politics.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Life right now

Cons:

1. It’s raining. Horizontally. That's November in Sweden for ya.
2. Headache in spite of coffee gulping.
3. Essay writing. It sucks. I thought QUB was bad.

Pros:

1. I’ve got tea in all the colours of the rainbow.
2. Cookies. Lets not forget the cookies.
3. Castle. Anything with Nathan Fillion really.
