Sooo tired

I really don't like being this tired. Really. And tomorrow I'm back there for 11 hours of work. Sunday is another 8 hours. Crap. I hate waking up by the alarm clock. Even though it's playing "Tavern at the End of the World" from the The Witcher RPG computer game.

Why do I do this now again? Oh, right - money. I need an ordinary weekday job.

Söndertrampad i Göteborg. Värt det.
  • Dammsugat hela huset och våttorkat köksgolvet (alla 6 husdjurens hemvist).
  • Rensat garderoben.

Awaiting Paul

I'm looking forward to this movie with all the nerdiness of my bitter heart. Nick Frost and Simon Pegg meets the Nevada desert UFO/Area 51 geek myth. LOVE IT.

It's the mother of geek themes.

Lonely activities

It's not what you think, you dirty freaks!
Jokes aside, I don't know what got me thinking about it but I found myself considering how many movies I watch in a year's time and reached the conclusion of between 200 and 280 movies. In addition, there are between 30 and 50 books read each year (counting textbooks for school) and countless anime and tv series. Between all that, it's a wonder I ever have time to interact with anyone. Sometimes I surprise myself.

It's a Black Books day

Yep, you heard me. It's one of those Black Books or Dead Like Me days. Dark humour at its very best. Some days you just need it.

VS.

Vampire Diaries - we're through

I’m now officially done with anything to do with The Vampire Diaries. I just finished The Vampire Diaries – The Return: Shadow Souls by L.J. Smith only to realize that I’ve got four books left in the series. As if I'd bother.
What really ticks me off is how the tv series could become so dull and tedious after only a season and a half (if there’s only one character left to appreciate – Damon Salvatore/Ian Somerhalder – I’d say there’s nothing left to see) when, at least, the novels keep getting you confused with all the far-fetched twists and turns and creatures from all kinds of cultures to put the main characters in deep doo-doo.
Like so many other authors, L.J. Smith suffers from making her characters infallible. Elena Gilbert, the girl we all (including all the other characters of the novels/series) follow in awe, is invincible. The fantasy genre of books is full of these characters (ever read an Eddings book?) that can (almost) never lose and always come out alive at the other end no matter what obstacles they run into (mostly thanks to their awesome godly strength or wit or cunning or whatnot).
Also, it annoys me that they had to change the name of the town from Fell’s Church to Mystic Falls when it had a perfectly good name to begin with.

Bah.

Philips GoGear

Lately, I’ve had some trouble with my old mp3 player (emphasis on old here). Just the other day I wanted to pretend that the New Year meant that I'd gather energy to take those long walks and be a genuinely healthy kind of person (you know how it’ll end). Imagine my surprise when I realise that the mp3 has deleted itself. Not just music but also software. It's thoroughly and painfully empty (= no walking done that day).
So today I decided that it was time to get a new mp3. When I happened to mention to the clerk by the counter just how long I've had the old one he raised his single thick eyebrow and laughing said that Lady Luck had given me one helluva break. I’ve had my lovely black Philips GoGear for five and a half years (almost six) so understandably I have it in my mind that Philips makes good things and therefore I settled on a new Philips machine – an updated version of my old mp3 was found in Philips GoGear Vibe (the same amount of storage but about half the size of my old mp3, delivered with really lousy in-ear headphones).

Yes, my new mp3 is actually just as pink as in the picture.

Update:
Easy navigation ecxept for the "next track" key that seems to only want to fast forward and not skip a track. Irritating at times. Personally, I love the function where you can adjust and decide on a volume limit - perfect for all careful listeners.

Shangri-La

"Fafner in the Azure - Dead Aggressor" is an excellent anime if you're considering to give it a go. Also watch the OVA episode "Soukyuu no Fafner: LEFT OF RIGHT".
The movie "Soukyuu no Fafner: Dead Aggressor: Heaven and Earth" was just released in Japan only a month ago. I'm going to see it - of course.

I still get the shivers when I listen to this song (though I saw the anime four years ago) but I haven't quite decided if it's awesome or just plain horrible. And this is the whole song, not just the opening version. The Japanese J-Pop band Angela made all the themes for Fafner (I know they're weird, but their music grows on you, trust me!).

2011, what the hell

Swedish actor (and legend) Per Oscarsson is feared to have died in a fire (and since he hasn't showed up to refute it, I'm guessing it's true) and Pete Postlethwaith has lost his long struggle against cancer.
It's been three days of the new year and already 2011 is a bad one.

Promises

A friend of mine said this morning when asked what his New Year’s resolutions were that he doesn’t make any promises to himself that he wouldn’t be able to make and keep on any other day of the year but since I’m a bit of a tosspot I’ll have a go nonetheless;

Just like Bridget Jones I’ll promise to lose a few pounds, leave off the sugar and be an energetic visitor at the gym. I’ll read the paper and watch the news to keep up to date. Lastly, I’ll get that blasted essay done and solve the whole degree bullshit business.

That’s something.

Pfft! Just kidding, as if this year'll be any different from any other when I've broken all resolutions. Preposterous.

I had a lot of fun last night at least. Awesome.

The year that was 2010

What THE F**K happened?
Since when does time move in such an extreme velocity? Another year's at its end and though I've got older I can't say that this year's brought wisdom. At least not the kind I can use.

Best of 2010:
*I got pierced. Again. Just as much fun every time despite the fact that half of the piercings I've had done haven't healed well or at all and had to be taken out. The interesting ones are still there though. I wonder - what's next in turn?
*Once again visited Scandinavian Sci-Fi, Game & Film Convention in Gothenburg. Stormtroopers and nerdiness galore! See you there in February?
*I was actually in New York City, USA. For real and not just through Woody Allen's distorted camera lense.
*I bought my Akira Kurosawa box. 17 Japanese masterpieces in one box. My life-long obsession was finally put to rest. Somewhat. I'm still missing a few Kurosawa epics.
*Visited Stockholm Beer & Whiskey Festival. Now that's an experience you can taste!
*One of the last things of the year was buying the Queer as Folk complete series boxed set. No need for more explaination.
*I discovered Sebastian Horsley. No need for explaination in this case either - just read Dandy in the Underworld and see for yourself.

...and then it's high time for some bitching, people, I give you:

Worst of 2010:
*I moved away from Kalmar and with it - the gym. Moving away from the city isn't half as bad as moving away from the gym but moving from the gym isn't half as bad as moving from the people. When they still liked me that is. This one is a bit two-sided.

*Due to too much stupidity collected in one skull, I didn't manage to graduate and get my University degree.
*I didn't expand my tattoo even though I would very much like to. I wonder what else I'm too lazy/chicken shit to do?
*I seem to have fucked up so many friendships I barely have any left. I think I might actually have a problem with my brain being missing. It might be an empathic problem as well.
*The bastards of Blizzard didn't release Diablo III.

For 2011:
We'll just have to see what the next year will bring. Hopefully, it'll be some old friends meeting anew, new friends getting together, tattoos, books, tea, movies, laughter, picnics, sci-fi, fantasy but mostly, I hope for lots of love.

Gonna stop

Yes, I'll stop talking about it as soon as I get it out of my system: Queer as Folk.My 18 DVD box containing all 5 seasons and all 83 episodes has finally arrived.

(Also notice the Bleach t-shirt I'm wearing.)

Jimbo's the 42nd

The thought hit me a few weeks ago but it's not until now that its full meaning really came to me.
Is it only me that find that funny?
Let me explain; My trail of thought went from Treasure Planet being the 42nd movie in the Swedish Disney franchise milking "Disneyklassiker" series, to the movie being about adventures in space. Moving on, the number "42" is the answer to Life, the Universe and Everything in Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Which is of course about plenty of adventures in space. Voilà.

My ability of association is astounding.

Winter

Common prejudices about Sweden include stuff like that the whole country’s covered by glaciers and that polar bears roam the streets. Neither is true. Sure, some stray moose enter bigger towns now and then and wolves scare small dogs half to death. Where I live we’ve had a bear chasing after our horses once but that specific bear was brown.
Maybe it is a bit exotic living here after all.
