A very Hobbit-y Midsummer

This year, for the first time since I was in my early twenties, I had enough time off from work to be able to attend some sort of Midsummer festivities without stressing myself to bits. My best friend arranged a LotR-inspired potluck in her garden for which ten happy nerds turned up.

In proper hobbit fashion we were absolutely drowning in good food and good drink. Pictured below is most of the food we had to choose from (key word: "most of"). After all the food it's Swedish tradition to play games and be silly which we obviously did with gusto and to our great joy one of the nerds had created a LotR-themed game especially for the evening - a version of "Toss the Dwarf" obvisouly.

I'm eternally grateful for my best friend for lending us her garden to meet up - it was lovely seeing friends, dressing up and stuffing my face with good food. Some of these nerds I haven't seen since High School, but we're all still basically the same lil' nerds/misfits as back then.

Lets talk about ice-cream

I can't eat dairy product in any greater amounts, not even lactose free stuff works that well anymore though they used to. In the last couple of months I've gradually worked my way from lactose free dairy products to soy and oat products instead. I rarely miss having milk in my coffee. Sometimes I miss heavy cream. I do miss butter. And holy hell, do I miss ice-cream! When Ben & Jerry's let us know that they were planning on launching a series of dairy free tubs I was thrilled, but it took a whole friggin' year before they launched them in Sweden! (Final launch was almost a month ago.) So like... can we please talk about these ice-creams?!
Today I bought Chunky Monkey which used to be one of my favourites back when I could still eat dairy stuff with a little help of pills containing the enzymes I myself lack. However, I couldn't settle with just trying one so I bought Peanut Butter & Cookies as well. I remember back when I could eat a whole tub by myself in one sitting but these non-dairy ones are heavy. Very filling. Also very expensive. One tub is like 10$. But yum-yum in my tum-tum.

Time to get this Hutt crispy

Haven't updated in a while now due to 'life' getting me down yet again. Coming back from my relaxing little mini vacation only to be hit in the face by everyday pet peeves that suddenly ganged up on me made me seriously consider uprooting myself and becoming a hermit. That way I won't have to deal with any other idiocy but my own. I hate reality.

But alas, I was finally able to supress my seething anger and move on. This much thanks to one of my closest friends paying me a visit to let me vent my frustration but also make me experiment with cooking. For the first time ever we made Chinese dumplings and though they were rather time consuming in the making, they were in the end absolutely yummy. Being brought back up from my mood swing I'm now also back to reading and that meant picking up the next book on my ever growing list of reading material; 'Anansi Boys' by Neil Gaiman (a kind of sequel to 'American Gods' which I loved). Slow start but gathers up speed pretty quickly after the first 30 or so pages. I've only about 70 pages left but had to move out of the sun by reason of being paler than a sheet of bleached paper and expecting to be lobster red by sunset.

Oh, and Psst! Tomorrow is the day I get to see Dara O'Briain perform his stand-up Crowd Tickler here in Gothenburg. That'll be amazing beyond words.

So it's a Tuesday you say

Tapas and sangria on a Tuesday, fuck yeah. I'll have to be at work at 6:30 tomorrow.
It'll be glorious.

When in doubt; make pie.

I've had a friend over this weekend and he left about four hours ago. Since then I've watched some episodes of my present tv show obsession, played some D3, showered, continued listening to a Terry Pratchett audiobook and finally had some icecream. That's when I realised that I had a whole bunch of apples tucked away in a cupboard.
I don't really like apples. Except, if they're in any other shape than just the pomaceous fruit of the apple tree I love them. I like apple pie, apple juice, apple muffins, dried apples, apple sauce, apple marmalade, apples stuffed in chickens... After a short burst of panic about the fact that they might go bad if I don't come to a decision quite soon I decided to make pies (notice the plural). And since I'm a slightly odd carbon-based bipedal life form of the planet Earth I will be serving one of them to my colleagues in the small hope that it will not poison them but possibly endear myself to them instead.

My new boss in particular.

Lets just hope he likes apple pie too.
